Science Outreach Catalyst Kits (SOCK)

If your chapter wants a FREE outreach demo, apply for a SOCK now! Applications for SOCKs are open and kits are ready to ship, only 100 SOCKs will be available on a first-come first-serve basis! This year’s SOCK includes materials to perform Cakeraters, a demo where students can recreate the moment falling space rocks collide with the surface of planets and moons to create impact craters which can be found all over our solar system.

There are also new low-cost demonstrations featured on the SPS website. These demos are fully comprehensive and include: cost of demo, age of audience, presenter notes, and short videos to help you get started. If your chapter has any outreach demonstrations to contribute, contact us at sps-programs@aip.org.

Don’t Forget These Important PhysCon Deadlines!

We’re about 3 months away from #PhysCon2019, the largest gathering of undergraduate physics students in the world! Make sure you’re aware of these important upcoming deadlines:

Keep a Look Out for the Fall Mailer

The 2019 Fall Mailer is on its way to your advisor’s mailbox! In addition to the newly revised SPS Information Handbook, you will be able find the SPS statement on diversity and inclusivity, program resources, and an abundance of opportunities to look forward to!

Request Alumni for Your Event

Through the Alumni Engagement Program, you and your chapter can engage with alumni for career advice, mentorship, job shadowing opportunities, or to schedule an in-person or virtual speaker for your next chapter or zone meeting! You can browse profiles within the alumni database and filter based on geography, engagement level, discipline, and job sector. Once you’ve selected an alum, simply click “Request this Alum” and fill out the required fields within their profile to connect with them. The Alumni Engagement Program is a great resource to consider for planning chapter activities and to keep in your arsenal of career and professional development tools.

You can learn more about the Alumni Engagement program here. If you know of any alumni who may be interested in joining this program, request that they fill out the Join the Alumni Engagement form.
