Looking for a constructive way to use extra time in the summer? Start planning grant applications for grad school!

The vast majority of physics graduate programs provide financial support for their students. However, coming to grad school with your own funding can help you get into the lab of your choice, give you more flexibility with the projects you work on, and sometimes get extra money in your stipend. Many grant applications require a research proposal, and it can be helpful to have a lab in mind or work with a faculty member on a research proposal.

GradSchoolShopper.com is a great resource for identifying faculty whose labs do research aligned with your interests. Check out some grants like the ones below and start thinking about your research proposal before the school year starts.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program (NDSEG)
