2020 SPS Summer Intern Closing Symposium

The 2020 SPS Summer Interns are finishing their 10-week long summer internship program and will be presenting their final work Friday, August 7 at 11 AM EST! The 2020-2021 Fall Mailer is headed to your SPS Chapter Advisor’s mailbox! The mailer includes SPS membership benefits, the new information handbook, award information, and more! Be sure to utilize the resources to help elevate your chapter for the 2020-2021 school year. The Fall Mailer will also be available electronically.

 
 

SPS Emergency Scholarship Now Available

The SPS Emergency Scholarship was established by the Society of Physics Students, the American Institute of Physics (AIP), and donors to provide relief funding for students impacted negatively by the COVID-19 pandemic and effects thereof. With many impacted during the 2019-2020 academic year and future implications likely, many undergraduate physics and astronomy students have been displaced, lost employment, had summer internship opportunities become unavailable, or need financial assistance to continue their studies. To help alleviate these potential hardships and ensure that undergraduate physics and astronomy students can continue their studies, SPS is offering needs-based support to undergraduate students negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 
 

Check Out the 2020 Science Outreach Catalyst Kit!

Microphones, portable oscilloscopes, tuning forks, and slinkies: the 2020-21 SOCK celebrates the International Year of Sound with acoustics-themed demonstrations for undergraduate outreach. With these included materials, participants will learn about sound waves, the human ear, and view live sounds! With support from the Acoustical Society of America, the 2020-21 SOCK is extending its availability to both SPS and ASA chapters. Check out the previous SOCKs if you are interested in undergraduate outreach and be on the lookout for the 2020-2021 kit coming soon!

SPS members attending and reporting on professional physics meetings are eligible to receive up to $300 as an individual and $250 per person as a chapter in travel reimbursement. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
