For undergraduate students with the potential and intention for continued scholastic success who are in financial need
Particular consideration is given tostudents in their third year of undergraduate studies who may have overcome significant obstacles in their professional journey
Provided to students based on exceptional research achievement in any physics-related field
Up to $2,000 provided for travel/registration to attend one AIP member society meeting and a $500 honorarium for the student and $500 for the SPS chapter
Awarded based on leadership, student leadership development, support, and encouragement the advisor has provided to the chapter; Must have received an Outstanding Chapter Award within the past two years
Awarded $6000 divided between the recipient, SPS chapter, and department
$2,500-$3,000 awards for students in Sigma Pi Sigma
Awarded based on upholding its four pillars (Honor, Encouragement, Service, and Fellowship), and exhibition of the potential and intention for continued scholarship in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field
Preference for current undergraduates, graduate students, or those inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma within the past 10 years
The deadline to be printed in the summer issue is March 15.
SPS Council Nominations have Closed!
The SPS Council is the main governing body for the Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma. The council composition was designed carefully with the student voices in mind. Nominations for the following positions on the SPS Council have now closed:
SPS Zone Councilors for Zones 8,10,11, 15, 16, 18 (three-year terms)
Associate Zone Councilors for all 18 Zones (one-year terms)
Sigma Pi Sigma President (two-year term)

Celebrate Women's History Month and International Women’s Day!
Throughout March, SPS and AIP are highlighting resources and materials to celebrate the accomplishments of women in science. Be sure to follow our social media channels, @AIP_HQ, @AIP_TEAMUP, @AIP_Library, @AIP_History, @SPSNational, @AIP_Stats, @PhysicsToday, and join in on the conversation!
Additionally, International Women’s Day is March 8. Take this time to plan events centered around uplifting gender minorities in your chapter and university or think about what you can do to make your physics and astronomy community more inclusive!
Celebrate Pi Day by Giving Back
Are you interested in raising money for your chapter or helping other students succeed in their physics or astronomy journey? Use Pi Day as an excuse to give back! Plan a “Pi Your Professor” fundraiser to raise money for your chapter – find ideas on how to host an event here.
Interested in giving back to future students? Donate to SPS or Sigma Pi Sigma in an increment of Pi! $3.14 from a lot of people can go a long way to fund travel or outreach for students in the future. Donate here!
Apply for the TEAM-UP Together Scholarship!
This $10,000 award aims to reduce the financial barriers that prevent Black and/or African American students from completing their undergraduate degree programs in #physics and #astronomy. Applications close March 8, 2024, so apply today!
