Engagement award to Sigma Pi Sigma chapters for funding events that aim to include alumni, help with chapter inductions, or expand the recognition within the campus and surrounding community
$600 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually
Scholarship award for Sigma Pi Sigma members that are within 10 years of their induction for the purpose of supporting advanced education in physics and astronomy
Several $2,500-6,000 awards will be made each year
This scholarship honors Marian H. Rose, a career plasma physicist, author, and environmental activist, who graduated from Barnard College and received her doctoral degree from Columbia University
The awardee must be a female-identifying current early career graduate student in an accredited college, with preference given to student pursuing research in Climate or Environmental sciences
One $15,000 award will be made each year

Opportunity to Attend the Upcoming SASE Conference for Free or at a Discounted Price!
The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) is offering three free passes, and unlimited discount passes to attend their upcoming SASE Connect 2024 Collegiate Conference on October 10-12, in Boston, MA! These passes cover the Collegiate Reception & Hospitality Suites on Thursday, Oct 10th, the collegiate general sessions, breakouts, and networking sessions on Friday, Oct 11th, and access to the STEM Career Fair on Saturday, Oct 12th, 9am - 4pm.
The free passes cover 100% of your costs, whereas the discounted passes bring the price of the collegiate conference and career fair from almost $150 to $135, plus fees. The discounted passes are unlimited, but only available until September 25, and the three free passes are first come first serve, so let us know if you're interested ASAP.

SPS wants to help you step up your outreach to the community with free stuff! Chapters can get a free Science Outreach Catalyst Kits (SOCK)to use in outreach presentations (first come, first serve). This year’s theme is eclipses! Or you can expand your chapter’s demo library through use of our Outreach Demonstrations, with topics including astronomy, mechanics, optics, and more!
Looking for a little competition? Engage your chapter and challenge your physics trivia knowledge with the latest version of Physics Jeopardy from SPS! With questions ranging from relativity to radioactivity, Physics Jeopardy encourages friendly competition as members/teams compete to earn the most points. Whether you are planning an event on your institution's campus or within your community, outreach is a fun and engaging way to communicate science to a broad audience.
Fall Mailer and Biweekly Schedule
The Fall Mailer will be delivered to each department and will include many resources for you and your chapter. There will be posters to hang in your lounge, award and internship opportunities, the 2024-25 SPS Handbook, and much more! Electronic versions will be available here.

Save the date for the 2025 AMS Student Conference!
Abstract submissions are open for poster sessions at the American Meteorological Society’s24th Annual Student Conference in New Orleans and online 11-12 January, 2025.
The conference features networking with peers and leaders in the field, professional development workshops, a Graduate School and Career Fair, poster sessions (you can submit an abstract for free–deadline 19 September!) with student poster competition, and more. The conference and associated financial assistance options are open to all AMS Student and Graduate Student Members. If you’re not already a member through SPS, you can apply for 2025 membership ($20/year) starting this fall, around the same time conference registration opens.

The Technical Conference is organized around three themes that leverage the intersection between science and applications — the result is intended to illustrate the research within the technology. The themes provide opportunities for focused, deep dives into the most compelling and promising technologies of tomorrow. The technical content is complemented by the Science & Industry Showcase (Sept. 24-25), an exhibition with leading optics companies, technology product demonstrations and industry-focused show floor programs. In addition, we expect upwards of 500 posters presented over multiple poster sessions, including an Undergraduate Research Symposium.

This event was created because APS leadership recognized that the first few academic conferences can be daunting and overwhelming for many students.
