PhysCon 2016 - Extended Award Deadlines!PhysCon 2016PhysCon Travel Award Deadlines Extended until Oct.1! PhysCon Travel Awards are available for students presenting posters or artwork, traveling in a group via ground vehicles, reporting on PhysCon 2016, etc.


The 2016 Quadrennial Physics Congress (PhysCon) being held in Silicon Valley, CA, November 3-5 is just around the corner! Registration is open! Register now and save $ with early-bird rates, in effect through September 30. Be sure to check the website for ways to raise money for your chapter, apply for travel funding, check out speakers and site tours, and much more.


Attendees are encouraged to submit poster abstracts for presentation at the PhysCon poster sessions. They are also encouraged to submit their 2- and 3-D creations for display and/or judging at the PhysCon Art Contest. Check the PhysCon website for details. Poster abstracts and Art abstracts are due by September 23, 2016.

ATTENTION - New Application Deadlines!Mark your calendars! SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma have consolidated deadlines for awards, scholarships, and internships. Check the website for a list of all the new application deadlines! Also, the deadline for special PhysCon opportunities has been extended to October 1!


Fall Chapter Award Applications Open!PhysCon 2016SPS is calling for applications from SPS chapters!
Future Faces of Physics Awards are granted to chapters that promote the recruitment and retention of people from groups historically underrepresented in physics. Several awards of up to $500 are made each year.
Marsh W. White Awards are offered to SPS chapters for physics outreach to grades K-12 and the general public. Several awards of up to $500 are made each year.
SPS Chapter Research Awards are offered to SPS chapters for physics research projects. Several awards of up to $2,000 are made each year.

Renewable Energy Scholarship Foundation - Zone 17The Renewable Energy Scholarship Foundation gives scholarships to students in Oregon and Washington (SPS Zone 17) studying renewable energy. Applications are being accepted now through Dec. 15!


Upcoming Scientific Meetings - Students Welcome

The 2016 Mid-Atlantic APS Meeting, October 15-16
Registration is open for the annual mid-atlantic section conference of the American Physical Society. The conference will take place on the campus of the University of Delaware. The meeting is being organized by the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, and the local UD Chapter of the Society of Physics Students.

The Optical Society (OSA) Frontiers in Optics (FiO), October 17-21
The OSA - Frontiers in Optics also serves as the 32nd Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society's (APS) Division of Laser Science (DLS). The conference will take place at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, New York. See what FiO has to offer young scientists and students.
