We’re in the home stretch—The 2016 Quadrennial Physics Congress (PhysCon) opens less than one week from today! There is a palatable buzz in the national office as the planning committee and Sigma Pi Sigma staff put the final touches on what we hope will be an outstanding program.
Here are a few more details to help as you finalize your own preparations and begin to pack.
Dress Code
The PhysCon dress code is business casual. For men: trousers/khakis and a shirt with a collar. For women: trousers/knee-length skirt and a blouse or shirt with a collar. No jeans. No athletic wear.
SPS Spirit Day
The morning and afternoon of Thursday, November 3rd will be “SPS Spirit Day.” Wear your favorite SPS, Sigma Pi Sigma, or physics/science related shirts for the PhysCon tours and Exhibit Hall! If your SPS chapter has matching shirts, think about wearing them en masse.
The “collared shirt” requirement in the dress code will be waived for Spirit Day. We do ask that you change into business casual for the Networking Reception and other evening events from 6:00pm on.
Tours
The PhysCon tours have strict entry requirements, which will be enforced, especially those related to citizenship and ID requirements. Failure to comply with the requirements could mean forfeiting the tour opportunity. All tours are approximately 3 hours in length with anticipated transportation times of one hour each way. Roundtrip shuttle service is provided to transport attendees from the Hyatt Hotel to the tour sites.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, there have been some last-minute changes to some of the tour schedules. Please keep an eye out for another email detailing these changes.
Meals
The following meals are included with your registration:
Thursday, November 3: Light fare (taco bar) at the Networking reception (6pm – 7pm) Friday, November 4: Breakfast and lunch Saturday, November 5: Lunch and the closing banquet
Registrants will be responsible for all other meals during the congress.
Name Tags
PhysCon attendees must wear their name tags at all times during the meeting. Entry to talks, sessions, meals, and tours may be denied to those who do not comply.
Detailed Program
A detailed program, including a daily schedule, has been posted on the PhysCon website and meeting app. You can also access a PDF copy of the printed program online.
Dance Party: Silicon [Si]
Get your groove on at Silicon [Si], the official PhysCon dance party sponsored by the American Physical Society. This event will be held in the Pool Pavilion behind the Hyatt Hotel from 8:30pm – 10:30pm on Friday, November 4. Please note that space is limited to approximately 400-500 attendees, so arrive early if you plan to attend. Soft drinks will be provided, and there will be a cash bar. ID is required for entry.
