Party of the Century!

Join SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma on December 11, 2021 to celebrate our 100th birthday! Sign up to receive a party box and link for the for a special celebration video, including plenary talks by honored guests former SPS Director and President Toni Sauncy and former Sigma Pi Sigma President Willie Rockward. The celebration video will honor SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma Service Award recipients. Nominate someone from your chapter or community by Oct. 22 to be included.

Get your free party box (while supplies last) filled with SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma themed swag and party supplies: a giant SPS flag, prizes, balloons, stickers, pins, themed confetti, and more!

Parties will take place anytime between November 1 to December 11. We encourage chapters to post pictures of the centennial parties on social media and #SPSNational!

 
 

Fall Awards are Open!

Have an idea for an event, outreach, or research project and need funding? Let SPS National help you get there! Applications and advisor sign offs are due Monday, November 15, 2021.

Future Faces of Physics Award : $500 maximum

  • Outreach award to promote the recruitment and retention of people from historically underrepresented groups in physics and astronomy

Marsh W. White Award : $500 maximum

  • Outreach award to chapters for programs with grades K-12 and the general public

Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter Project Award : $500 maximum

  • Engagement award for funding events that aim to include alumni, help with chapter inductions, or expand the recognition

SPS Chapter Research Award : $2,000 maximum

  • Research award to chapters for imaginative physics and astronomy projects

OSA is now Optica!

The Optical Society of America (OSA), founded 105 years ago, has changed their name to Optica in an effort to reflect the changes in optical science over the past century. To learn more about Optica’s history and their name change, read here .

 
 

Don't Forget - Two New SPS Awards!

As a reminder, SPS is now offering the Food for Hungry Physics Students grant to help alleviate food and personal need concerns for physics students and AIP-SPS Undergraduate Student Emergency Tuition Assistance for those negatively impacted economically by the pandemic.

SPS offers Travel Awards of $300 (for in-person meetings) to members presenting their research at AIP member society meetings. A limited number of awards will be offered.  Apply Today !

SPS members attending and reporting on professional physics meetings are eligible to receive $300 as an individual ($75 if virtual) and $250 per person as a chapter for in-person meetings in travel reimbursement. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  Apply Now  !
