Students are placed at organizations, such as AIP, AAPT, APS, NASA, NIST, Capitol Hill and more. If you're interested in past intern experiences, check out their blogs and final presentations .

Fall Awards Due November 15

Make sure to submit your applications and recommendation requests before midnight on November 15, 2021, to be considered for the SPS Fall Awards!

Future Faces of Physics Award

  • Outreach award to chapters to promote the recruitment and retention of people from historically underrepresented groups in physics and astronomy
  • $500 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

Marsh W. White Award

  • Outreach award to chapters for programs with grades K-12 and the general public
  • $500 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter Project Award

  • Engagement award to Sigma Pi Sigma chapters for funding events that aim to include alumni, help with chapter inductions, or expand the recognition within the campus and surrounding community
  • $500 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

SPS Chapter Research Award

  • Research award to chapters for imaginative physics and astronomy projects
  • $2,000 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually


 
 
 

Sigma Pi Sigma Centennial Event

Join SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma on December 11, 2021, to celebrate our 100th birthday! Sign up to receive a link for the for a special celebration video, including plenary talks by honored guests former SPS Director and President Toni Sauncy and former Sigma Pi Sigma President Willie Rockward.

Parties will take place anytime between November 1 to December 11. We encourage chapters to post pictures of the centennial parties on social media and #SPSNational!

 
 

Upcoming Zone Meetings

Zone meetings bring together students from SPS chapters within geographical zones. They are a fun and effective way for undergraduates to meet other students, present their research, and interact with practicing scientists. See below for the upcoming zone meetings.

Fall 2021: 

  • Zone 7: November 12-13
  • Zone 5: November 13
  • Zone 9: November 13

Spring 2022:

  • Zone 2: April 9
  • Zone 6: March 18-20
  • Zone 13: March 10-12

As more zone meetings are scheduled, they will be posted  on the online calendar.  Please  contact your ZC and AZC  for more information.

SPS members attending and reporting on professional physics meetings are eligible to receive $300 as an individual ($75 if virtual) and $250 per person as a chapter for in-person meetings in travel reimbursement. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Apply Now !
