SPS Internship Applications are now OPEN!

Apply your physics skills to science policy, outreach, education, and research – Applications for the SPS Summer Internship Program open November 1! Students are placed at organizations, such as AAPT, NIST, APS, Capitol Hill and more. If you're interested in past intern experiences, check out their blogs and final presentations!

 Applications, including advisor signoffs and recommendation letters, are due Monday, January 16, 2022. Please contact sps-programs@aip.org with any questions.

 
 

SPS Fall Awards Due in Two Weeks

Does your SPS chapter have an idea for an alumni talk, outreach event, or research project, and need the funds to execute it? Let SPS help you get there! Applications and advisor sign offs are due Tuesday, November 15, 2022.  

Future Faces of Physics Award  

  • Outreach award to chapters to promote the recruitment and retention of people from historically underrepresented groups in physics and astronomy
  • $500 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

Marsh W. White Award  

  • Outreach award to chapters for programs with grades K-12 and the general public
  • $500 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter Project Award  

  • Engagement award to Sigma Pi Sigma chapters for funding events that aim to include alumni, help with chapter inductions, or expand the recognition within the campus and surrounding community
  • $500 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

SPS Chapter Research Award  

  • Research award to chapters for imaginative physics and astronomy projects
  • $2,000 maximum, awarded to several chapters annually

SPS-AAPT-ALPhA Award  

  • Research award to recognize outstanding work in the development of an advanced laboratory apparatus/experiment by an undergraduate physics student
  • $1,000 student travel award, a $500 faculty travel award, a $500 student honorarium, and a $500 award to the department to advance the department’s advanced laboratory
